Black Lion Pub

The Black Lion is the quintessential Brighton pub. Locals will enjoy its laid back atmosphere, while visitors can seek refuge from their hectic schedules in a raucous night out.

The eclectic tunes and excellent food make it one of my favourite pubs on this side of town!

It has a front terrace where people can gather and watch, together with a deceptively large beer garden that provides a social hub for friends and colleagues to gather each day.
With its murals from artists in town and live music on offer every night – whether you’re there for DJ nights or chilled drinks during the week, The Black Lion is still rooted in tradition but has grown into something much more than just your average boozer; it’s now one of the city’s most popular meeting places!

The moment I walked through those doors after moving back home last year was like reuniting with an old friend – warm memories rushed over me as soon as my nose caught a whiff of their homemade pizzas cooking in their kitchen.

The Black Lion Menu

A wide range of traditional pub dishes is available on the menu of the Black Lion restaurant, cooked from fresh, organic produce from around the Sussex area.
Whether you’re looking for lunch or dinner, the options here are versatile; there’s something for everyone – think small plate starters such as butternut arancini scotch egg, sharing dishes like fully loaded nachos (think queso), salads if you want to try out new things on your diet plan or burgers/dogs if it is an occasion where sliders won’t cut it!

This restaurant has a range of vegan mouth-watering options, but I’m partial to their tofu dogs. Besides the Asian salad, I am also a fan of the sticky toffee pudding served with Guinness and salted popcorn as the dessert to complete our meal.

Sunday Roasts

Having Sunday Roasts has been a weekly tradition at The Black Lion since the restaurant first opened, this is where the traditional fare is prepared with locally sourced products.

Served with crispy roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables as well as delicious veggie and vegan options for those who can’t make up their minds, Sunday roasts come in both adult sizes (adults only) or children’s sizes (smaller portions).
Enjoy your expertly mixed Bloody Mary or glass of fine wine while you wait for your meal!

Lots of Booze!

The Black Lion is the go-to place for beer lovers. You can’t beat their IPA or Brass Monkey, and they have a great cocktail selection too!

This is the place to be for when you need a little pick-me-up. Gain entry with £12 on Tuesdays and enjoy 2 cocktails, or sip your way through their carefully selected wine list!

Amarillo

Amarillo Restaurant at Drakes Hotel

Ian Swainson, Michelin starred chef and one of the best chefs in London is now bringing his world-renowned dishes to Amarillo. Diners can experience Ian’s unique talent up close with a meal at Amarillo.

Ian’s team is working hard to bring Amarillo a relaxed and fun experience without the stigma of fine dining getting in their way.

Exquisite Spanish Cuisine

Amarillo Brighton is a restaurant that seems to be one of the best in England. They offer fine dining, but at an affordable price point and casual atmosphere.
The menu has dishes divided into three categories: fish, meat, or plant-based food with each category having two to four servings for sharing plates.

You should plan on getting two appetizers, either a seafood dish or something vegetarian depending on your preferences; then choose between 2 mains and sides before deciding on dessert if you are still hungry!
This place will give you exciting experiences through little tastes so don’t overfill yourself too much!

We ordered a bavette. It was so good, my favourite cut of beef with the deep rich flavour from the burnt onion and balsamic sauce it came marinated in.
All this plus tender stem broccoli that had been cooked to perfection with an amazing bearnaise sauce which I didn’t even know existed before ordering but ended up being one of my favourites now!
And all those flavours were just complemented by some tarragon – something you might not have noticed if they hadn’t told me about it beforehand because its sweetness almost convinced me there was vanilla at play here too…

The wine list is expansive, catering to all tastes. There’s no better place for coffee than this spot too!

Mouthwatering Desserts

The tiramisu at this restaurant is particularly delicious. It’s deconstructed, but the light sponge and mascarpone cheese make it worth ordering even though you can’t eat with your hands-you’ll need a spoon for sure!
The rich salted chocolate mousse just adds to its amazing taste–I would recommend getting that as well.

If floral desserts are more what you’re looking for, then I highly suggest the syrup marinated peaches with lavender and champagne (served in an adorable glass jar).
This dessert includes surprising little jelly pops which add some fun into those otherwise dainty bites of peach.

The next time you’re in the mood for a great meal, stop by this restaurant. The quality and detail of the food are evident in both the branding, plating, settings and most importantly–the taste.
They have dishes that will make your mouth water and keep coming back again and again!

Moksha Caffe

A hum of conversation and laughter fills the room as you walk into this bright, spacious cafe. The air is filled with aromas from freshly brewed coffee to delicious scones on display that speak to your stomach’s needs!

The Moksha Caffe opened 13 years ago, it has a warm atmosphere perfect for meeting up with friends or just catching some fresh air while enjoying one of their many flavours in their selection menu which offers both hot and cold drinks.

Moksha’s homemade cakes and lovingly made coffee are the reason why this restaurant is a favourite among locals.

The best part about this cafè is that you feel like you’re at home away from your abode.
Something is comforting about having someone greet you as soon as they see you walk through the door and then chat over coffee while nibbling on some yummy treats or an affordable lunch special for people who are looking for good value but can’t afford all-day breakfasts every single day–and it doesn’t hurt that everything tastes great too!

A Classic Family Cafe

Moksha Brighton is the go-to café when you’re looking for a casual atmosphere with that family vibe.
From the picture of the owner’s son on the wall to spacious seating perfect for pushchairs, this cafe has it all!

All of the restaurant’s dishes, from homemade brunches to fresh soups and burgers served at lunch, are prepared in-house by expert chefs.
Its menu is distinct enough to provide customers with a wide variety of dining experiences, whether they are individuals seeking a delightful cup of coffee and good food, or groups of friends interested in good food while reading a magazine.

A Sensational Menu

The Moksha Caffe is famous for its generous breakfasts and huevos rancheros, a loaded tortilla that resembles both an omelette and unwrapped burrito – crafted by trained chef Oliver himself.

From traditional breakfast fare to vegan and gluten-free options, Moksha has something for everyone.
Whether you are looking for eggs or smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, they have a variety of dishes that will satisfy even the pickiest eater!

The food at Moksha is a mouthwatering mix of tastes and textures. The free-range bacon, sausage, eggs and beef tomato are all bursting with flavour–and the homemade beans have an amazing sweet taste to them that you won’t want to forget!

The Moksha breakfast menu is sure to please any appetite. I recommend the crab benedict, a dish which combines white crab meat and chilli lime mayo with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce all served on rye bread for an extra delightful experience!

Lovely Cakes!

The Moksha Café is a place for people to enjoy their favourite pastries in peace. A cosy atmosphere perfect for meeting friends and catching up on current events- all while enjoying the delicious baked goods they have available!

When the craving hits, you can find a mouth-watering cake at Moksha. The gluten-free and vegan options are also here for your liking.

Cocktail Menu

Fill your day with tasty food and a boozy brunch. At Moksha, you can get delicious artisan coffee served in the morning or chill out with some cocktails any time of the day. They even have Brooklyn Lager on tap for those who prefer beer to wine!

The coffee, the service, and even the atmosphere are all about warmth. They want your visit to be both good quality and warm at Moksha Caffe. It’s worth a try!

English’s of Brighton

English’s of Brighton

I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of older things. I love old books, antique furniture and even talk to my grandparents on Skype when they come over for a visit!
So I should not find it surprising that English’s the oldest seafood restaurant in Brighton has captured my heart with their delicious food and rustic atmosphere as well.
Located just off East Street near The Lanes is where you’ll find this family-owned and operated establishment situated on Market St., an area of town which would without question boast one of the best restaurants around!

The Leigh-Jones family have run English’s since 1945 and when you step inside, the low ceilings and sloping floors give that away.
It’s all part of this little place’s charm – it feels quintessentially British with its hand-painted signage on the exterior.

This is the kind of place that stands out on a street full of restaurants.

It’s one-of-a-kind and has such an authentic feel to it, you can’t help but want to stop in for just a moment before moving on with your day!

English’s of Brighton Food

Seafood is the best meal to be served on a day where it feels like summer. Not only has English’s been cooking seafood for over 150 years, but they’re also getting more creative with their menu items!

English’s is the place to go if you love seafood and want something with a little more flavour.
Their staff can recommend the right dish for your tastes, or help make suggestions on what wine will match up well!
With fresh and high-quality ingredients that are sure to impress even the pickiest eater in your group of friends – stop by ASAP!

If you’re feeling adventurous, make your way for their Tuesday Mussel Mayhem! Choose from five different varieties of mussels with fries and some bread on the side.
Then enjoy a glass of wine or other beverage before indulging in a decadent dessert off their menu!

If Fridays are more your style, don’t miss out on 7 lobster dishes served alongside garlic chips and fizzy drinks.

On weekends I like to spend time with my friends at English’s, where we usually order oysters and eggs- Benedict. Yum!

My favourite dish is their à la carte menu starter platter which has a range of different types of food on it that you can share between your table depending on what everyone wants.
It’s always so much fun when the server brings out the tray full of beautiful dishes for us all to enjoy as well.

The starter platter includes salmon slices, prawn cocktail, chicken liver parfait, calamari and lobster and shrimp croquettes.
I think this is great value for money considering the variety of items on there – a light but delicious way to get your appetite going!

There are so many different ways to enjoy this place; whether you want a glass of wine and some oysters on the terrace, or if you fancy tucking into an amazing seafood meal at their marble-topped oyster bar!

I’ve had the opportunity to try a variety of dishes at English’s, and I would highly recommend that you visit if you’re in search of classic cuisine.
The summertime is an ideal time for sitting outside where there are only a few tables available so plan and make sure to book one when it’s sunny out!

Julien Plumart

Julien Plumart Brighton

Julien Plumart’s exquisite cakes and desserts will make all of your celebrations extra special. Cakes and desserts made with innovative technology and high-quality standards are an art form that must be experienced to be believed. We recommend this for any after-work drinks, lunch with the family or a quick treat when on a shopping trip.

Despite still offering some of his most famous recipes at Cocoa Patisserie, Salon De Thé adds savoury menu options as well as an ever-increasing array of macarons in jewel-like colours and flavours. His creations draw inspiration from his family, people, and culture while striving for perfection; in his constant pursuit of perfection, there is no limit to what is possible.

The Julien Plumart restaurant offers a typical mouthwatering French breakfast, a light lunch, and a taste of paradise.

Down-to-earth all-day chain offering modern spins on classic American fare & fresh-baked pies.

Delicious Collection of Patisserie

In addition to blending time-honoured flavour combinations and inventive approaches, Julien injects creativity, fun and an element of ingenuity into everything he does. With a constant push for perfection, you can expect to see new and unique culinary delights every time.

These are just some of the creations you will find at this restaurant, including Mojito, Salted Caramel, Pistachio, and many more.

Here, it is all the details that leave an impression, from the shimmering finish on the raspberry on top of the Delice mousse cake to the choices of glassware. It’s possible to have a meal outside in the sun, as well as inside, in well-decorated surroundings. Overall, the experience is enjoyable.

You can also choose from four award-winning macarons, which are light, crisp, flavorful, and full of moisture.

For a box of 8 macarons, it costs £13, for 18 you pay £26 and for 24 you pay 35. There is no doubt that they are worth the cost as they are truly the best macarons in the city. You can, of course, buy them separately to eat on their own. Get the Mojito with a smooth jelly in the middle, the Tart Tatin, your favourite Rose or Pistachio or the best Salted Caramel. Flavours and cakes are constantly being updated so be sure to check back often to see what’s new.

Pastries like the huge Briochette or Croissant have a nice touch to them. The distinctive cakes like the Pistachio & Cherry Creme Brûlée Tart and the Black Forest Gateau are affordable and reasonably priced around £3-4.

They serve the best pastry and coffee, the most beautifully presented cakes, and their breakfast treats. Our desserts included a rich, velvety, smooth chocolate with a honeycomb base and a delectable Spring Delice dessert that works so well together.

A palate cleanser of artisanal ice cream was thoughtful and indulging. One of the best ice creams we tried in Brighton was the passion fruit ice cream drizzled with white chocolate.

A delightful staff of french servants will welcome you and amaze you with the delicacy of Julien’s creations. The perfect venue for special occasion gifts, stocking stuffers and the right thing to complement a meal out. Also great after dinner to grab a great dessert!

With Deliveroo, you can access Julien Plumart’s delicious macarons, pastries, patisseries, breakfast, brunch and brunch options.

Nostos

0

Nostos Hove

Nostos, a brand new Greek restaurant on Holland Road in Hove, just opened in Brighton and we are incredibly excited. This isn’t your typical Greek food, at this brand new restaurant you’ll find less-known dishes cooked to a higher standard.

In Homer’s The Odyssey, the hero returns from his epic sea voyage and recounts his heroic return. That’s why the name Nostos refers to an enduring theme from the ancient Greek tradition. In the gorgeous and hip northern Greek city of Thessaloniki where the chef, Alex, and managing director, Kyriakos, first met, Nostos the restaurant was born. With the launch of Nostos, their dream of opening their own Greek restaurant in the UK with a contemporary take on Greek gastronomy has come true.

Delicious menu, plenty of vegan & vegetarian options, great service & friendly environment.

It sits at the end of Western Road and the beginning of Church Road, so it’s easily accessible both by visitors to Hove and Brighton. A modern and bright interior replaces the traditional taverna decor within the restaurant. Despite its minimalist design, the eco-friendly interior is functional and stylish with reclaimed black tiles, exposed brick walls and grey banquettes. With its floor to ceiling windows running across the front and opening onto Brighton’s Palmeira Square, the restaurant creates a bright, airy atmosphere.

Food at Nostos

At Nostos, you will find a fresh twist on Greek cuisine in Brighton thanks to the love of wild fruits and vegetables the country has championed on the menu here on the South Coast.
The menu includes several classic Greek dishes but there are also many vegan and vegetarian options, which should appeal to veggie Brighton dwellers.

A large part of Greek food is made up of grilled meats and fish. However, the many vegetable dishes Greek’s consume daily are often overlooked.

In addition to checking out the menu, we snacked on charred herby pita bread and sampled our wine, a rosé made with the black Messinicola grape.

Summer-perfect pale peach in colour, the drink was slightly sweet with a fruity hint. The Greek wine market is improving rapidly, and it’s worth exploring.

Our tastebuds were treated to a three-course dinner for two that can also be delivered by Deliveroo or Uber Eats.

Our starter, which was accompanied by a smooth, earthy fava bean purée, was dubbed The Santorinian Octopus. The purée had a gorgeously caramelized octopus tentacle embedded in a foil of samphire. The portions are perfect, and each mouthful is like joy. They know the flavour, and they know the value of freshness.

Moving on to mains, Nostos’ Vegan Moussaka was a milder vegan take on the classic meat dish with grilled aubergines, courgettes, peppers and potatoes baked in a bechamel sauce with a mild lentil ragu. In contrast with the crunch of the cashew nuts and breadcrumbs, the aubergine had a creamy, soft flavour that provided a satisfying sense of texture contrast.

Then there is the Chicken Souvlaki – two succulent, juicy skewers of chicken, served with a generous portion of crispy chips on the outside; and warm chunky potato chips in the middle. It’s like heaven on earth! There is a lovely tinge to the tzatziki and it perfectly brings together the dish, along with enough pitta to feed a family of four.

Our dessert order included a dark chocolate Chocoltopita sponge cake. This is the ultimate dessert, accompanied by a light chocolate mousse and strawberries. Another cake is the Orange Ravani, a sweet orange sponge cake topped with fresh, sweet orange syrup and pistachio crunch.

If you enjoy Greek cuisine, then Nostos should be a place to visit in Brighton. Only a few steps from the beach, it offers friendly service and outdoor seating in the summer.

The Cricketers Brighton

If you’re in Brighton and looking for a place to grab some drinks, The Cricketers is your best bet. Why? Because this pub has more history than any other that’s been around as long as it!

Not only does The Cricketers have a rich and colourful history, but it’s also got an atmosphere that can’t be beaten. With dozens of beers on tap at all times, the traditional English pub’s ambience is what sets them apart from other pubs in Brighton.

Located right in the middle of Brighton’s Lanes, this top-notch venue attracts all sorts.

It has a bunch of different rooms with their special vibe and perfect central location!

Sustainable Seafood and Meat

The food is so delicious that it practically screams your mouth! It seems like Phil, the head chef, is never short of mouthwatering dishes to create. He uses only the finest British produce. For every dish, he and his team use farm-raised meat and eggs, and sustainably caught seafood that is always on hand!

The meat at this restaurant is so good that it’s almost like you’re eating a work of art! The chefs are committed to ethical farming and provide natural, organic meats from rare breeds for their customers.

The pulled pork and Sussex apples are the perfect pairing. The salt and vinegar chicken wings will have you feeling nostalgic for all your favourite pub foods in one bite.

The Cricketers are a great place to go for lunch. They have all the classics, including burgers and sandwiches with delicious fillings like chicken and beef! They got their burger vegan option too! You can also enjoy their chips which come either plain or “dirty” covered in onion rings and bacon.

Drinks to Love

If you’re in the mood for a drink, The Cricketers has something to satisfy your every need. They offer anything from wine and beer to various cocktails! We ordered an organic red wine that was fruity but smooth with just enough heat at first taste.

The Cricketers is a charming eatery that never fails to please. Whether you are looking for some pub grub or delicious cocktails, this restaurant has got it all! Its casual yet cosy atmosphere makes every visit feel like home and its location right in the heart of Brighton make it perfect no matter what time of day or night.

The Little Fish Market

0

The Little Fish Market

Duncan Ray, the chef and owner of The Little Fish Market in Hove began back in early 2013 with a small restaurant that could not fit more than 20 people.
Previously he had been working as head Chef at Pennyhill Park and then The Fat Duck until eventually deciding to open his place.
This cosy little fish market has an urban vibe that is accented by local artwork on its walls while also serving up some excellent dishes such as their Cod & Chips or Oysters!

I’ve been hearing about this place for a while now, and I had to jump on the opportunity when my friend cancelled her reservation. Honestly, it’s even better than what all of the fuss is about!

The food doesn’t disappoint either – everything we ordered tasted fresh and delish!

Six-course Menu

The little fish market is an incredible restaurant where they offer a different six-course meal that rotates every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on what’s in season for an optimal flavour adventure.
They give diners 5 delightful starters before each dish alongside extras such as Monkfish or Slip Sole.

When I think of seafood, the first thing that comes to mind is always great tasting dishes. It’s a no-brainer for me when it comes to restaurants and so far, this place has been pretty spectacular!

I could eat anything from this menu because it’s pleasing to the eye. It tastes even better if you know that there are no words on here that have been used over and over!
The restaurant transforms simple produce into a gourmet dish just for you- what more can I say?

The menu at this restaurant has dishes that you don’t even want to miss out on. There’s the celeriac and the mussel curry!

Desserts are the best part of any meal, and this restaurant has a variety to make your mouth water. Try Valhrona chocolate tart or mandarin with cacao nib for something sweet!

Fine Dining at its Best

When you walk into this small restaurant, the first thing that catches your eye is how bright and welcoming the space feels. The decor is simple but neutral so it will feel like home in no time at all!
What I love about this place though are those two large windows on either side of the venue – they frame everything perfectly while letting plenty of natural light come through which makes for a great eating atmosphere.
And my favourite part? They have some amazing sustainable fish dishes (of course) as well as good meat alternatives too if needed!

The food at this upscale restaurant is as expensive and high-quality, but it’s worth the price. The service was really good and the wine list is perfect for any fish.
Book a table in advance because they get booked up weeks before!

The Cleveland Arms

The Cleveland Arms

The Cleveland Arms is a bustling pub with an inviting atmosphere that offers good food, friendly service and the finest drinks.

Walking up to this establishment we could already tell it was full of life because there were people everywhere – families chatting in groups at tables as children ran around playing games while friends chatted over pints on outdoor benches enjoying a warm day outside.

Inside, you can see the warmth emanating outwards towards waiting customers who will experience nothing but kindness. The countertops are laden with plates containing sandwiches freshly made, alongside beer taps all emitting their golden liquid into glasses awaiting thirsty patrons ready to quench their thirst after long hard days of work.

Wine Selection

There is an excellent selection of wines on offer, all listed on their chalkboard outside in plain sight for your perusal. We had the vegan Gran Cerdo; not only did it taste great but we loved that they labelled this as being “vegan”! It was light on acidity yet packed full flavour that made it perfect for a warm evening.

However, we also went ahead and sampled other options off their list to find some great new favourites; Harvey’s Brewery’s bitters were spicy without being too overwhelming while Brighton Gin is surprisingly sweet despite its high alcohol content. And if you’re looking for something bubbly to toast your big day then Ridgeview Bloomsbury sparkling wine won’t disappoint – there’s just enough sweetness in this one not only giving it

Pub Dishes

The Cleveland Arms has a great selection of small plates and bar food that is just as well-thought-out as the main menu. There is nothing I love more than their inventive twists on classics such as their salt pepper chicken wings and Barkham blue cheese dip, or their local chorizo and beans stew with focaccia! Just superb!

The chef is an expert at roasts and has perfected the traditional dish. Crispy roast potatoes, fresh vegetables, creamy gravy – you name it! The best part about this restaurant though? They use only local ingredients to ensure premium quality meat on your plate.

The Beer Can Free Range Chicken is highly recommended! With each bite, the meat crumbled in my mouth. I never knew chicken could taste so heavenly until now, served alongside hand-cut chips, and apple slaw.

The Cleveland Arms is at the top of my list of favourite places to eat in Brighton. The food is delicious, and they have a great selection on their menu – including vegan options! I loved that there were so many different drinks offered too- wine, beer, cocktails, coffee… everything you could ever want!

Donatello Brighton

The history of Donatello is as long-standing and rich in tradition as the restaurant itself.
The original establishment opened over 30 years ago, opening its doors to Brighton residents – a beautiful little Italian oasis that warmed hearts on chilly seaside evenings with hearty dishes straight from Italy’s South Coast region.
It was not just food for them but an experience worth sharing: family recipes passed down through generations coupled with fresh ingredients sourced locally when possible-all delighting taste buds both old and new alike!

The atmosphere at this quaint eatery has been described by regulars as “magical.”
That’s because it feels like you have stepped into another world where all your worries melt away while indulging in fabulous service paired flawlessly alongside equally delicious Italian food.

A Family-Run Business

The restaurant is nothing short of a family experience. It has been managed by the founder since it opened and she’s kept up with her three sons that follow her in running this business.

Together they employ nearly 100 locals from Brighton, ensuring every person feels like part of their big Italian dream team!

Quality Italian Food

Donatello is one of the most consistent venues in town. I keep coming back because they never let me down on any level: food, drinks and service are all up to par with other places that charge twice as much for a similar experience.
They have an authentic menu from regular Italian dishes like spaghetti bolognese or lasagna (both of which are expertly cooked), but also more creative options such as lobster ravioli made fresh every day!

The prices can’t be beaten either – it’s hard to find another place where you get this kind of quality at these rates anywhere else in town.

The menu is split into sections, so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for.
Whether the suns out or not doesn’t matter- we love antipasti on their roof terrace during summertime and pizza with a glass of wine on colder days!

Perfect Location in Brighton

Donatello is a homey restaurant with lots of options for any occasion.
Whether you’re looking to grab some lunch after shopping in the Lanes or just wanting an Italian feast, this Brighton eatery has got it!
The seating capacity can hold up to 300 people and they are happy pre-ordering menus if needed.

Authentic Wine List

Are you looking for an Italian wine list? Donatello has some of the best from all over Italy. Whether it’s sweet or dry, they have something that will suit your taste buds!

The staff are really friendly and helpful at Donatello. It’s a great place for people who like to be treated well while they’re eating out.
The food is delicious, the decor divine, and it has this peaceful atmosphere you’ll love too!
