Manju’s

Manju’s Brighton

Walking into Manju’s is a bit like walking into the home of someone you just met and fallen in love with.
The smiling matriarch greets customers as they step inside her humble restaurant off Brighton Pier; it feels more like India than England somehow.
Chef Dipali cooks up some delicious vegetarian Indian dishes using only fresh ingredients, giving diners an experience that would be impossible to recreate back at their homes in Britain.

Manju’s Indian Restaurant is a gem in Brighton!
We have plenty of other great restaurants that serve Indian food, but Manju’s stands out because it tells the story through its dishes and lovable character who curates recipes rustled up by her daughter-in-law Chef Dipali.

A Family-Operated Business

Manju’s is like stepping into a blanket of warmth. The food here has been lovingly made by the lovely Manju who’s in her eighties and can still cook up Western Indian dishes to perfection time after time!
Dipali, born and raised in Gujarat herself, trained as a chef back home before going on to work for some of India’s best chefs.
She now cooks with love alongside old-timer Manju – it sounds pretty special if you ask me!

AWARD WINNING GUJARATI CUISINE
Changing Perceptions of Indian Food!

Manju’s reminds me that there are no substitutions: cooking well requires talent mixed with care from someone who knows what they’re doing.
It only gets better when those skills come from two people celebrating each other’s differences.

A Feast of Gujarati Cuisine

You’ve just got to try the Gujarati cuisine at Manju’s Brighton. This ancient culinary treasure is filled with tasty vegetarian street snacks and a great selection of thalis, dosas, curries- oh my!
Plus you’ll be able to enjoy flatbreads from all over India for lunch or poppadoms and chutneys before dinner.

Several Choices for Everyone

Manju’s is the best place if you want some delicious food. They have a menu that has something for everyone, including vegan and gluten-free dishes!
The prices are reasonable too so it’s perfect to take your whole family with no one feeling left out or hungry. With the children’s menu too, you won’t be disappointed when visiting Manju’s.

Curry Leaf Cafe

Curry Leaf Cafe

Curry Leaf Cafe Brighton is a unique fusion of South Indian street food with the best craft beers and cocktails. This is a gem, for sure. They have the most amazing food and drinks in town!

This is the perfect spot for a casual meal. There’s no need to dress up and all their ingredients are sourced locally when possible, so you can enjoy filling meals at great prices!

The menu caters to all appetites and different types of food. At lunchtime, visitors have the option for soups or salads that are quick but healthy choices, as well as a selection from their traditional Thali platters which include dosas and open tandoor naan wraps. The dinner options focus on street foods with dishes like crispy curries flavoured expertly by spices while offering refreshing desserts when you’re done eating too much!

The environment there is modern yet still colourful as well which made me feel right at home when exploring outside of my comfort zone by trying new foods like Kerala Paratha or Chana Dal Fry.

Impressive Drink’s List

Brighton is the perfect destination for your next weekend getaway. The Curry Leaf Cafe offers craft beer, wine and cocktails to enjoy with delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere. From their expansive tap list including both American beers as well as European ales alike; you’re sure to find something that suits your tastes! They also have an extensive selection of bottles and cans so there’s no reason not to stop by on one of Brighton’s many sunny days!

Beer Matching

Beer is often overlooked for food pairings, with little thought given to how much of a match made in heaven beer and Indian food is. Curry Leaf has taken the lead on this trend which set to grow even further; their thoughtful beer pairing matches up well with all the street-style dishes they’re serving at this new West Sussex gem. They’ve got some aubergine bhagis coming your way – paired perfectly with Wild Beer ‘Bibble’, or sea bass curry matched best by Arundel Brewery’s finest brews? You can’t go wrong!

Great for people with dietary restrictions

This cafe has a pretty strong vegan and gluten-free menu, with selections available all day long. And on Sundays, they have this awesome Indian brunch menu that includes dishes like “The Full Indian Fryup,” spiced omelettes, savoury lentil doughnuts…I mean just the idea of those alone makes me want to stop by! They also offer dosa and traditional slow-cooked Biriyani dishes – totally delicious-sounding stuff. The food is served from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm every Sunday for that special daily meal deal!

Variety is key at this nice little corner cafe!

Eastern Eye

Eastern Eye Brighton

The Eastern Eye restaurant is one of the oldest in London Road with a rich history. Nestled between the shops and cafes, it’s easy to miss on your way through. The first time I went there was for my anniversary and boy do I regret not going sooner!
I had been looking for somewhere nice to take my partner for our anniversaries but hadn’t found anything that seemed right – then when we were driving past on our way home from work he saw this place, stopped to look at the menu outside and said he really fancied trying it out…and so we did! We both loved everything about this place – how inviting it was, how lovely all the staff were, how tasty the food was.

The Eastern Eye restaurant recreates the magic of Indian Cuisine combined with the cosmopolitan vibrancy of Brighton.

The people in front of us seemed to be the only ones who got it. The restaurant was definitely unassuming and you wouldn’t know anything if you just walked past, but yet they still had a line out the door. It wasn’t just due to their cult following either; this place served food that any sane person would want to eat. And I don’t mean some fancy-pants foods with an exquisite looking description that cost £13 for two mouthfuls (although there are plenty of those too). No, these dishes were simple yet satisfying: chicken tika, lamb shank or masala made from scratch every day. The Eastern Eye were one of London Road’s favourite restaurants, mainly because it served great seafood and their head chef, Murrali, is from Madras where he specialised in Indian cuisine before working.

The Atmosphere

I was happy that we had chosen to come here because it looks like this little gem has been well kept under wraps for years. The restaurant is small and cosy, but there’s enough room for everyone without feeling cramped or claustrophobic. Chef Murrali shared stories about his food and how it came to be so popular on London Road. He talks passionately about spices from all over India, as well as his love of cooking seafood dishes which are full of flavour due to the ingredients used is fresh and sourced locally from within England instead of imported. Finally, he brings out some amazing.

The food at Eastern Eye

Sitting in the restaurant, the smells of freshly cooked food wafted from the kitchen. It smelled delicious and my stomach growled loudly. The chef’s top pick was grilled fillets of swordfish in a hot curry with pickling spices while Lamb Shank Narendra was a favourite so tender it practically fell into your mouth doused in caramelised onion, roasted garlic, bay leaves and black pepper sauce.

This Indian cuisine restaurant is a delight. With a delicious array of dishes to choose from, they have something for everyone; especially if you are looking for an authentic taste of India. The menu offers both traditional and non-traditional Indian dishes with everything from Kheema (minced lamb) to Mogo Kheer (sweet and spicy milk dessert), as well as some more English-friendly options like rice pudding or chai tea. There’s also plenty of vegetarian options on the menu so everyone can enjoy the best south Indian food in town!

Indian Specialty

The food at this place is so different from the rest and it’s worth trying. Chef Murrali cooks all his dishes fresh with only wholesome ingredients for an authentic taste and you can tell by how fragrant your food smells when they present it to you. He has some really interesting dishes, like their butter masala dosa or lamb and red onion dosa for example. They also have delights such as Uthappam with seafood or meat toppings, something new every time you come back! After eating here you’ll be ready to digest but also cool down with a glass of red wine.

Overall this place is worth visiting just for the service alone but also because they have some great food too!
When you go inside, it is warm and welcoming. The people are always smiling and happy to help you with anything they can do for you.

Petit Pois

0

Petit Pois Brighton

A short distance from the bustling seafront and the historic Lanes, Petit Pois Brighton is located on the famous Ship Street. It is a bit of a departure from the local food offerings, which are surrounded by a variety of dining options.
Located just a few steps away from the shore, this French bistro is an accessible contemporary eatery with a menu of memorable selections, and a wine list to die for.

When inside

It was a bustling restaurant full of happy diners discussing plates of delicious-looking food. A beautiful colossal blackboard, adorning the kitchen counter, tantalising odours of garlic, herbs, and truffle, as well as a gigantic leg of ham, immediately invoke a strong desire for food. This made me eagerly observe the other patrons get some inspiration from their food, and of course not to miss out on anything on the menu.

There’s a range of vegetarian, fish and meat dishes on the menu, along with vegan options, so the whole Brighton community can enjoy it. The portions on the menu are plentiful and cater to all dietary requirements, with four choices in each of the three main dish options (meat, fish, vegetarian). At Petit Pois, one can enjoy a quality dining experience whether it’s a date night out or a family gathering.

From The Menu

I had the pleasure of dining with a friend who is a recently converted vegetarian, who was both impressed by the wide options available to her. She chose goats cheese croquettes to start and wild mushroom ravioli for a main. I was happy to see snails and frogs legs on the list of nibbles as both of these are French delicacies. Since I had never experienced the latter since the last time I was in France, I found it impossible to resist ordering them as a starter, choosing pork belly as a main and frites and mixed greens as a side dish.

Our list of reasons why you should visit Petit Pois includes a carefully crafted and well-thought-out wine list. Only French wines are offered, and many of them are natural, which is a bonus for us. The list is significantly different from other lists in Brighton, showing France as one of the world’s best wine-producing countries. The team at the front of the house can offer food pairing recommendations so you can get the most out of your Petit Pois experience.

The meat on my pork belly was perfectly cooked and juicy, with a nice crispy crackling crust on top. There was a side dish of red cabbage and tiger-prawns, all served with a flavourful potato mash. Every single bite was delicious, made me wonder about how the Sunday roasts are and made me want to book a table there for later in the week. A fine addition to the meal was our side dishes of frites and mixed greens. A lovely creamy bearnaise sauce was served with the frites. The mustard greens were crisp, fresh and drenched in garlic butter with sautéed shallots served in an ever-so French style. Superb!

It’s Sweet Time

Having had a dessert of crème caramel, which had runny, sweet caramel as well as crispy pieces of caramel, I was extremely satisfied. My dining partner picked a twist on a strawberry cheesecake with a sponge-like base, cheesecake filling, strawberries and strawberry gel topping – a great finish to this amazing meal.

Petit Pois is a French restaurant located in the heart of The Brighton Lanes. This charming establishment is just a pebble’s throw from the sea side.

Our visit to Petit Pois was smooth sailing from beginning to end. We booked a return visit immediately. A charming restaurant and a lovely, warm and cosy atmosphere made us wanna stay! All of our meals were amazing, so we wished to return and try more on the menu. There’s a lot of talent here for French cuisine that has a contemporary flair. For those on a budget, there is a set menu from Monday to Friday, 12-7 pm, offering two plates for £11, or three, for £16, which is incredible value for money and still has a great variety of dishes. Petit Pois has got it all when it comes to a truly authentic French dining experience.

L’Atelier du Vin

0

L’Atelier du Vin Brighton

Brighton has a fantastic food and drink scene, which is the reason why so many people come here to dine. There are places to wine and dine on almost every street, suitable for all tastes. It’s a challenge now how to surpass the other winery or restaurant next door, which is only a few meters away. Here we bring you the most exciting addition to the food and drinks scene, L’Atelier Du Vin.

In February of 2018, L’Atelier du Vin Brighton opened at Kensington Gardens as a prohibition-style speakeasy atop an attic. This space quickly became a local hub as well as gaining national recognition. L’Atelier du Vin relocated to St Georges Place in early 2019, expanding into a larger venue that would accommodate its sought after drinks menu and increasing fan base; Seven Dials followed shortly thereafter. They were awarded Best Cocktail at the Brighton Restaurant Award in 2020.

The theme It’s a studio wine-bar, place where one can discover great wines and rare vintages, drink great, classic cocktails from prohibition era and enjoy some simple but good quality food.

A mismatched interior surrounded by salvaged furniture has high ceilings, full-length windows and eclectic décor. In the day, the bar is bright and welcoming whilst at night the curtains are closed and low lighting aids in the feel-good factor of a secret speakeasy.

The L’Atelier Bar, built by L’Atelier Owners Steve and Dimitri, is the heart and soul of the business. With 2 pence pieces over a draw construction. Visitors at the bar can experience the art of bartending up close thanks to stools. A private wine tasting room is provided in the new L’Atelier, which can accommodate up to 15 people with a mezzanine place for small parties.

Extensive Drinks Menu

Brighton’s L’Atelier Du Vin bar has one of the most comprehensive drink menus, with over 700 wines, 200 champagnes, and 300 spirits. Wines start at £4 a glass, and there are hundreds of distinct vintages available in the hundreds. A sommelier, Stefano Angeloni, is on-hand to illuminate wine and make it accessible, with the venue emphasizing accessibility.
L’Atelier Du Vin offers exceptional wines by the glass with Coravin technology, wines previously available only in bottles and out of the budget of most folks.

They have a great wine list and spirits, but also a wide variety of cocktails inspired by the classics and arranged by a timeline from the cocktail’s creation. A particular favourite is the Gordon Gin of the 1950s. Fancy something a little different? If you want something more modern, just consult the bartenders and they will prepare whatever your taste buds request!

Food Menu

While the main focus of dining at L’Atelier is on drinks, they don’t stray far from serving mouthwatering steaks, sourced locally from Trenchmore Farm. Also available are a variety of charcuteries and cheeses to enjoy with your wines and cocktails, so if you prefer a lighter bite this is an excellent choice. The L’atelier du Vin adds a unique touch, winning many over, by engraving each regular’s steak knife with their name and keeping it in your possession until you use it – further emphasising their commitment to their regular customers.

Now open, L’Atelier du Vin Brighton invites you to visit and enjoy a nice glass of wine! Two for one is being offered on a selection of wines and cocktails on Sunday through Friday, 5 pm-7 pm, so make sure not to miss out!

Mange Tout

0

Mange Tout Brighton

You’ll find Mange Tout south of Brighton Station, which is part of the same brand as one of Brighton’s top 20 restaurants, Plateau. In 2020 they achieved the Best Brunch honour at the Brighton Restaurant Awards, proof of their commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients and relaxed social vibes.

A buzz of chatter will greet you as the barista grinds beans and steams milk. The sound of upbeat jazz can be heard throughout the building, a space you’ll enjoy escaping into.

It is only a few minutes walk from Brighton station, making it a great destination when you arrive from afar. During the week, Mange Tout is open for breakfast and lunch. Their dinner menu is available Thursday through Saturday.
Mangue Tout’s laidback vibe has made it a popular venue for weekend brunch. Many Brightonians and weekenders have become accustomed to the kitchen’s Mediterranean version of the full English breakfast before hopping onto the train home.

Ambience

Their unpretentious interior is furnished with mismatched chairs and tables that are reclaimed timber pieces. Its floor is concrete with some splatters of paint and the walls are off-white with an accent of fern green. A delightful, sprawling wine store stands behind the bar. I can tell by perusing the menu that the store is certainly not just a showpiece. On my way here for brunch, I scan the blackboard affixed to the wall and wish I could just hang around until dinner as well.

Perfect Dining Venue

The food is simple, real cooking, with real sustainable ingredients. There’s such an incredible array of tartines, salads, sandwiches & platters to choose from, along with steak fries & beef bourguignon that it can be difficult to choose. If it all gets too much, the cheery young French staff are more than happy to advise.

During breakfast, you can choose from artisan croissants paired with coffee, freshly squeezed juices, fresh fruit kefir, and exotic juice blends.

Sweet and savoury options are available in the brunch menu with the savoury side containing the classic egg dishes; Florentine, Benedict and Royale, as well as the full English, Complet Mange Tout. Halloumi is also available as a vegetarian option.

The food arrives in a flash after my order is taken. At first, it appears small, but as I get closer, I discover the mushrooms hidden underneath the subtly smoked meat and Toulouse sausage. Served beside, a slice of sourdough with spinach smells as if it’s fresh-picked right from the garden. The tomato compote complements it well, adding an interesting touch.

Mange Tout is on top of its game, great food made from Sussex sourced produce that just melts in your mouth. On the menu, everything looks good.

Plateau

0

Plateau Brighton

In the heart of Brighton, Plateau Brighton is a lively French style bar and restaurant serving an unusual list of naturally produced wines and modern European sharing plates made from only the freshest ingredients.

With high quality, carefully crafted ingredients, they like to keep things simple at Plateau. The ambience and friendly environment at Plateau is perfect for spending time with friends, going on a romantic date, and celebrating special occasions.

The sense of intimacy, the warm and welcoming interior, the dark and moody colours, the industrial feel. A place like Plateau won’t overdo it and hardly try, so it’s perfect for dinner.

Extensive Wine List

With a cosy atmosphere and mostly natural wines, Plateau aims to be a place where you can experience wine-tasting without pretension. It’s the only place in Brighton that serves natural, organic and biodynamic wines.
Often, the wines are sourced from independent local producers, and taste delicious and are fun to share with family, friends, or your special someone! You’re sure to find something new at your next visit with their increasingly large and diverse wine list, which also changes frequently.

The Plateau Restaurant will be awarded Brighton’s Best Wine List for the year 2020.

Plateau Brighton Menu

Bite-sized, seasonal and small-plate-focused. The menu at Plateau Brighton changes daily reflecting the freshest produce available.
The restaurant encourages their diners to share plates. The Bites Menu at Plateau Brighton offers inventive and sharable plates designed to delight and surprise you.
Perfect for what we call “wine by the plate”, these small portion items complement the action and pace of the vibrant bar.

All their main course are always available and changing daily if you didn’t fancy sharing. They do a good variety of foods and nice presentation for all meals. Plateau dining is always fresh, so whatever takes your fancy, choose from one of the main courses or be adventurous and try something new.

I ordered Braised Shallot and Parmesan Ravioli. This sweet, onion filled pasta was served perfectly. I was made to think differently about the stuffing that goes in my filled pasta as it was completely different. The crème fraiche and walnuts provided just the right amount of flavouring for the pasta.

Independent natural wine bar, restaurant with sharing plates, good vibe, music for events, wine tasting, parties, functions and the best cocktail bar.

This was when I was greatly impressed. However, the Plateau de Viandes rocked up which was a dream come true for carnivores. Despite being fairly expensive, you do get quite a lot for your money and the quality of the product does justify its high price. The dish is essentially a refined assortment of grilled meat, which includes soft, sweet bavette steak, sausages, the best pork belly you’ll ever have, a little burger with succulent pulled pork and a thick slice of their own Boudin Noir, basically black pudding. With it were perfect complements of lentils, garnishes, and chutneys, as well as truffle fries with Pecorino shavings for a side dish.

Despite its high cost, Plateau is one of the better restaurants in the city and a better value for money as well.

Open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Plateau has become a great meeting place for many friends and families in Brighton.

Cyan

0

Cyan Brighton

The iconic Brighton hotel, the Grand Hotel, has opened its new restaurant. We were excited to go and try out their newest business venture called Cyan Brighton, a bar and resto with an emphasis on sustainability.

Astonishing Indoor Design

Behind its calm facade, Cyan Brighton is an all-day bar and restaurant that offers modern food selections. Named after its soothing colour palette of greenish blues, this Sussex eatery has been drawing in thirsty locals with its casual atmosphere and innovative dishes.

It is immediately noticeable that there is a large doorway leading to a large open bar as soon as you enter. This place gives customers plenty of opportunities – if they want quick service and only want to grab their food from the counter or sit at one of many tables there’s no problem! If they’re looking for some more relaxed dining with sweeping views then this restaurant has it covered. We chose a table so we could take all the time we needed to watch chefs cook our dishes while also getting up close and personal with as much staff on duty as possible.

Astounding Dining Experience

We walked into the restaurant and an immaculately dressed waiter quickly greets us with menus, drinks, a plate of crispbreads to nibble on (they are really tasty) along with some satay paste for enjoyment. We also got bread and spreads which were perfect because we ate those while waiting for our main dish to arrive!

We get our two starters, squid and ribs. The squid was soft instead of crispy with a breadcrumb coating and an oriental sauce which left me wanting more. I liked the lack of chewy texture that you find in calamari as well as it being softer than normal sushi rolls or sashimi for example.

The rib dish had just enough spiciness to make my mouth water without overwhelming the flavour profile too much; not over-salted but still packing some heat at least where barbecue is concerned – yum!

For the main, we had the two-course meal. The beef is cooked to perfection and the pork is juicy. We also got some vegetables done to perfection with big crispy Yorkshire puddings topped off by a rich gravy.

If you think that’s good, we also have some sweet treats for dessert such as treacle tart with clotted cream and orange blossom.

Drinks Menu

The cocktail list at Cyan sounds like the perfect drink to enjoy after a long day. We love that they offer something for everyone, from fruity drinks with hints of citrus and creaminess or stiffer cocktails meant for sipping on all evening. Alongside the delicious choices is an equally tempting wine menu full of flavorful options guaranteed to please any palate!

The atmosphere, service and food make for an amazing experience. The wine was especially good too; I’ll be back to try other dishes on the menu!

Baqueano

Baqueano

As a restauranteur, I’m always looking for the perfect spot to celebrate with my significant other. Baqueano is seriously one of those places!

The Argentinian food served here is a fusion of various amazing Argentinian flavours, so you can’t go wrong. Adriana and Jorge are the business owners couple who both share the same goal for their family-run establishment: to make anyone that comes in feel like they’re eating back home in Argentina. They have three children helping out too, which makes it an even more special experience when dining there!

The atmosphere is perfect if you want something casual but still want some amazing quality eats without breaking the bank. From their service to food, this is a place where you should feel at home with an authentic and delicious experience!

Argentinian Food Menu

The Argentinian food at Baqueano Brighton is so good that you’ll never want to leave. The skirt steak and sweetbread are a must-try!

With meat being its focus, this a la carte menu serves Entraña or skirt steak. There are also options for grilled meats with salad, chips and homemade sauces, as well as meal-sized portions like steak sandwiches or burgers available on their set menus.

I could have ordered one of everything at the restaurant, but I had to stop myself. When it was time for appetizers, we went with Provoleta and Picada Argentina, which were both delicious!

The ribeye steak was the main dish, and it felt huge. It was juicy, full of flavour, perfect with every bite. The fries were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside too! It’s like I died and went to heaven when I dove into those Argentinian dips with a side of yummy goodness that is sure to please my taste buds even more than before…

Wine List

Baqueano offers more than just a weekday dinner. For special occasions, Baqueano features a nine-course tasting menu for two with welcome prosecco on arrival and wine pairing included (and you can select from an almost but not entirely Argentinian wine list).

The noise, the people. It was like a heartbeat in my ear, and I loved it! The smells were intoxicating-full of life with so much going on. However, what was stunning was looking at all the varied types of people who were there: families, young couples, or even someone out alone. That’s what made me love this place even more than before – how everyone came together despite their differences.
