Beyond the Fringe – Festival Alternatives
This time of year is all about the Brighton Festival and Fringe around here but, believe it or not, there is still plenty going on above, beyond and behind the glitz of the festival. Here is a selection of interesting, fun and slightly bizarre things to do around the city if you’re all Fringed out. Feast your eyes, feed your mind, fill your ears and stuff your belly!
Adam Ant
Oh look, an 80s pop icon who’s still alive! The Dandy Highwayman himself is making a comeback and showing us what was acceptable in the 80s at the Brighton Centre on 18th May. He’ll be playing all his most popular hits along with some B-sides and personal favourites. Catch him while he’s still around!
Wild Life Festival
Get wild and fill your ears at Brighton City Airport on 9th and 10th June at the Wild Life Festival. Headline acts are confirmed as Brighton’s own Fatboy Slim, Jess Glynne and Dizzee Rascal. Other acts include Eric Prydz, George Ezra, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, immersive party Sambodromo De Brasil bringing a taste of the jungle to Shoreham and a whole host of other exciting performers. Tickets are available from the website and a bus service will be running from Brighton and Worthing especially for the event.
Brighton Bear Weekend
For all those big hunky hairy gay guys out there, here’s a festival just for you and your admirers. From 15th to 18th June, venues around Kemp Town will be celebrating the might and majesty of the bear with fun and frolics that start with a pub quiz at the Camelford Arms on the Thursday and rage all weekend until the final underwear party at Sublime on Sunday night. Get special offers and discounts throughout the weekend with a wristband you can purchase online here.
Brighton Cocktail Week
Here’s the best news you’ve heard all week – the 18th to 28th May is Brighton Cocktail Week where a £10 wristband allows you to buy cocktails at a mere £5 each at venues all around Brighton. Choose from five specially selected cocktails at each venue for this meagre price or keep your eye out for masterclasses, food and cocktail pairing sessions, promotions and tastings at the various venues. See the website for more details and to buy wristbands.
Eat Alfresco
After all that excitement, you can relax and delight your taste buds with the new menu at Alfresco Restaurant on the beach. Our superb menu was created by an award-winning chef and features the finest Italian flavours Brighton has to offer. Not only that, but the location right on the beach means beautiful views over the sea where you can eat, drink and watch the bears go by.
Check out the new menu and book a table on the website or download the app for the latest offers, giveaways and more.
