Hope and Ruin

The Hope & Ruin possess a unique character. There is a certain element of chaos to character, as it entails filling the space with your favourite things. It is exactly this kind of old-fashioned feeling that you will find throughout the bar.

There is a 150-capacity function room above the pub where live music is performed daily, including performances by local acts as well as international performers. From the days of the legendary Lift to the present day, this venue is a mainstay in the Brighton music landscape.

On entering, you might feel as if you have entered a junkyard. To say this restaurant is eclectic understates the case. There is something magical about this place that is compelling to visit daily, regardless of whether it is the caravan covered with old television sets and tangled wires, or maybe the futuristic ceiling installation.

Plant-based meals

The restaurant Hope & Ruin was recommended to me by a friend of mine while I was in search of creamy, cheesy, dairy-free, comfort food, and I wasn’t disappointed.

It is the go-to place for vegan junk food since the whole menu is plant-based.

The establishment is home to Beelzebab, which offers its popular vegan kebab, loaded chips, and hot dogs. Almost too good to be true, deep-fried, golden brown, without the faintest hint of lettuce. The food here is another level of vegan food – the kind of food you eat after you’ve had too much alcohol and have a hangover.

When I’m in the mood for some salty and fatty food, I enjoy their enormous spread, which includes two versions of packed fries (Fries-a-Go-Go and Currywurst), along with Chicken poppers plus crispy cheese sticks, easily the most delicious dairy-free cheese product I’ve ever had.

The flavour profiles are superb, or perhaps I should praise the seasoning balance, which is so well done.

You can expect seasonal promotions and tasty new dishes.

Plant-based beverages

The orange and purple pumps provide a good selection of ales, lagers, and keg beers. Gluten-free beer is always available and they have lots of local craft beers on hand.

Furthermore, they sell a variety of spirits, wines, and no-alcohol beverages. All drinks are made using only plant-based ingredients.
